Why get a professional registration?
The world is becoming increasingly competitive, and a job for life is a thing of the past.

Employers value workers with professional registrations as they provide sound advice and professional judgment based on up-to-date skills, committed to enhancing their career and professionalism, take a holistic approach and are sensitive to all agendas. To an employer, it means an assurance of quality, accountability and an understanding of the wider workforce.

RSciTech and EngTech
We offer Engineering Technician (EngTech) and Registered Science Technician (RSciTech), enabling us to acknowledge technicians as full members of the physics community – and allow them to gain formal recognition as professionals in their fields.

RSci and IEng
We offer Registered Scientist (RSci) and Incorporated Engineer (IEng) for members in their career who are not yet ready to apply for Chartership.

CPhys and CEng
We offer Chartered Physicist (CPhys) and Chartered Engineer (CEng). Chartership is for those members looking to demonstrate they have gained a high level of expertise and competence. Chartered members agree to be bound by a code of conduct that reflects good practice. The Code requires our members not only to show a high level of professionalism, but also to continually advance their competence through continuing professional development.  Chartered status stands for the highest standards of professionalism, up-to-date expertise, quality and safety, and for capacity to exercise leadership and undertake independent practice. As well as competence, the title denotes commitment to keep pace with advancing knowledge and with the increasing expectations and requirements for which any profession must take responsibility.

The Chartered Physicist title is exclusive to the Institute of Physics. Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer and Engineering Technician are maintained by the Engineering Council. Registered Scientist and Registered Science Technician are maintained by the Science Council
